San Marzano tomatoes give this sauce its character.
Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons Olio Carli Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 3 cloves of garlic, chopped
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1 28-ounce can La Bella San Marzano tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon Mutti tomato paste
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12 leaves of fresh basil, torn into small pieces
In a heavy saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil and saute onions and garlic over medium-high heat for 4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
Add the tomatoes, breaking them up with a wooden spoon. Stir.
Add the tomato paste, salt and pepper, and half the basil.
Saute over medium heat for 20-25 minutes.
Turn off heat, and add the remaining olive oil and basil.
